Looking For Information

Posted on October 8th, 2008 in Anne At College by kimber

“You still here, James?” Eric called out as he strolled along the darkened hallway.

“Yeah.” Anne rubbed the back of her neck. It ached from studying financials for the past 13 hours. All the numbers blurred together.

“That Stevie is a slave driver.”

Anne didn’t reply. She was but she was also her boss. Anne wouldn’t say anything bad about Stevie to anyone else.

“She’s the best though. Only reason the partners hired her.” Admiration in Eric’s voice. “What are you working on?” He hung over the cubicle.

“Stevie can explain it better than me.”

“Well f**k me.” Anne looked up to find Stevie holding her chest in mock surprise. “James can keep her mouth shut.”

“Better than mine.” A grimace tugged Eric’s lips. That intern had been walked out by security after leaking confidential information.

“You’re too soft, Eric. What did I tell you James?”

Anne wanted to groan. She hated being put on the spot. “The information doesn’t belong to us. It belongs to the business owners. We don’t have the right to use it willy nilly.” She dropped all the profanities from the lecture.

Eric laughed. “You said willy nilly, Stevie?”

“Bite me, Eric.” She hadn’t. Those were Anne’s words.

“I’m warning you, sweetheart, one day, I’m going to take you up on that.”

Anne watched the blush spread up Stevie’s face. The attraction between the two was something fierce. If Eric ever broke down Stevie’s defenses… No, she shook her head, she couldn’t imagine that.

The Girl Club

Posted on October 1st, 2008 in Anne At College by kimber

“Sit.” Stevie Carr indicated the empty guest chair. “F**king interns.” Although it was said under her breath, Anne heard it. She blinked, keeping quiet. “For the summer, your a$$ is mine, James. I say jump, you ask how high, understand?”

“Y… y… yes.” Why did she want this job again? Anne shifted in her seat.

“No, y…y… yes.” The woman imitated Anne. “Yes. A no-doubt-in-your-mind yes. Those jacka$$es out there.” She flung a hand at the closed door. “Expect you to be weak ’cause you’re a woman and men think all women are weak. They’ll be looking for it. So you have to be strong, show no softness.”

Stevie stared at her with hard blue eyes like she expected Anne to say something. “Y… yes.” She heard the hesitation.

“F**k.” A twist of the lips. “Yes. Say it, James. Yes.”

“Yes.” She did it this time.

“Better. F**k.” She gathered up a pile of paper. “If those jacka$$es try to get you to do their work, and they will, photocopying, getting coffee, that sort of sh** work, you tell them to check with me first. You’re to do my sh** work. If I’m to be the f**king babysitter… oh, and did the nicey-nice HR lady tell you about the flexible work hours?”

“Yes.” Stronger and Anne nodded her head for emphasis.

“Your hours will be d**n flexible. You’ll work when I do, and I choose to work from 7 in the morning until 10 at night, Monday to Saturday.”

15 hour days, six days a week? Surely Stevie was joking? Anne’s eyes widened.

“Oh, don’t worry.” A chuckle. “I’ll give you a half hour for lunch and a full hour for dinner. Welcome to hell, James. If you survive it…”

First Day

Posted on September 24th, 2008 in Anne At College by kimber

The door to the office flung open, bouncing off the wall behind it. A woman stepped through, an irritated look on her super model face. “You Anne James?” she growled.

Blast it. She’d be working for this intimidating woman? Anne jumped to her feet. “Y…y…yes.”

“Follow me.” She gestured with a well manicured hand. She didn’t wait for Anne, already moving along the hallway.

Anne hustled to keep up, the taller woman’s strides longer than hers. It didn’t help that the woman was in pants and she was in a restrictive skirt.

“I’m Stevie Carr.” This Stevie Carr scowled at the people hurrying to get out of her way.

“Stevie, I see you got a new play friend.” A handsome man in a navy suit hung over a cubicle wall.

That made her pause, Anne almost bumping into her back. “Bite me, Eric.”

Her comment only made the man grin. “I’d love to, Stevie. You tell me when and where and I’m there.”

Was that a blush on the back of the woman’s neck? “It’ll be a cold day in hell.”

“For you, Stevie, I’ll wait.” He laughed, a deep rumble. “You girls going to powder your noses?”

That got a snort. “Why don’t you powder my a$$, Eric.” And they were moving again. “No fu**ing profanities in the office, James.” Anne was told.

Great Review At Ecataromance

Posted on September 19th, 2008 in Breach Of Trust by kimber

I’m loving Ecataromance’s review of Breach Of Trust.
Here’s a snippet of what Elise had to say…

“Kimber Chin did an excellent job of bringing to life her main and her secondary characters. Anne and Philippe become old friends while Anne’s friends become larger than life and enhanced the storyline tremendously. Breach of Trust is an excellent book by Kimber Chin. I look forward to more of her entertaining tales.”
