Letting Go

Posted on August 20th, 2008 in Anne At College by kimber

“There are jobs at home, pigeon. Mr. Fischer said he could get you one at the bank.” Anne’s dad fastened the piece of drywall as she held it steady.

“I know, dad, but an opportunity with MM&M.” She sighed dreamily. To think she’d be working there. “It’s what I’ve always wanted.”

“Not always.” He put down the hammer, dipping the putty knife in the compound. “You wanted a pony when you were ten.”

Yes, she had, before she found out that horses smelled and made messes. “This isn’t the same thing. This is my career.”

“You can have a career at home, and you wouldn’t have to live here.” Anne grinned at her dad’s disgusted look as he filled in the gaps. “In this place. With a boy.”

“With Stanley, not exactly the same thing.” Stanley wasn’t shy about his sexuality. Her dad knew he wouldn’t be interested in Anne. “And with Nancy.”

“I don’t like it.” Anne heard the frustration. “What are you going to eat?”

Anne grimaced. Her lack of culinary skills was a family joke. “Nancy is a good cook.”

“Bah.” He stood back to admire his handiwork. “She’ll be off with that Ted character. If you come home to visit, we’ll send you back with plenty of leftovers,” he bribed.

No bribe necessary.  “You can count on it.” The four of them were very close.

“Your mom would like that, pigeon.”

He would like that, Anne heard. She hugged his big, strong shoulder. “I’ll come home as often as I can.”

Al Pacino In Righteous Kill

Posted on August 18th, 2008 in Men In Suits by kimber

Al Pacino Righteous Kill

Al Pacino usually wears beautiful suits.
Did you see the suits he wore in
The Devil’s Advocate?
I was drooling.
This is NOT a beautiful suit
(look how short it makes him seem).

But then, it is not supposed to
be a beautiful suit.
He is playing a police officer
in Righteous Kill,
a movie releasing this September.

The Cleaning Team

Posted on August 13th, 2008 in Anne At College by kimber

Anne swung the door open. “Mom, Ginny.”

“Annie.” Her mom’s beautiful face was an aged version of Ginny’s. Both of them were smiling, holding cleaning supplies. “We came to help.”

“Do we need help.” Anne stepped aside to let them in. “Dad?” She looked down the hallway.

“Parking the car. Grumbling about the cost of parking. You know your father.” Her mom grinned girlishly at the place. “This looks familiar.”

“What do you mean?” This was their first visit.

“Your father and I had a very similar place with we first got married. We were forced to move out a year later though.” Her mom took the broom Anne was holding and started sweeping.

Anne filled up a bucket in the sink.  They’d mop after the sweeping was done.  “Why was that?” She hadn’t heard this story.

“It got condemned.” A sheepish look. “They tore the building down.”

“Uh oh, Annie, that doesn’t sound good for your place.” Ginny snapped on hot pink rubber gloves, coordinating perfectly with her outfit.

“Ha ha, baby sis.” Anne threw her a wet, soapy sponge. “It only has to do us for the summer.”

“And where are your new roomies?” Ginny glanced around her.

“Stanley is having a sew-athon with his buddies, making slip covers for our yard sale finds and Nancy is fighting with the phone people.” Something about the past tenant not paying their bills or disconnecting their phone. She thought it best to do that in person.

“What the…” Anne and Ginny’s father boomed.

“Dear.” Their mother placed a placating hand on his chest. “Remember our first place.”
