He’s based on a real person.

I know, I know, we’re not supposed to do that. The real Stanley isn’t a make-up artist, he isn’t blond (he does wear eye-liner though – and he is good looking), he has a different history, and he’s a few decades older.

What I ‘borrowed’ are his mannerisms, his big heart, his carefree way of dealing with the often harsh world (including the often aggravating nicknames). I love the real Stanley but yes, some people don’t.

Does the fictional Stanley find love? I don’t know. I hope so. The real Stanley did. He’s been in a happily committed relationship (with a very conservative investment banker) for the past couple decades. Once I caught them looking at each other across a crowded room with such love in their eyes, the romance lover in me almost cried.
