“You are not touching my face.”
Anne heard the ruckus as soon as she entered Stanley’s apartment. Actually she could hear it out in the hallway through the paper thin walls.
“I am a professional. I’ve taken courses, Skinny Ginny.” There was a plea in Stanley’s voice. Anne knew Ginny’s face would be hard for him to resist.
“I saw what you did to Annie’s hair.”
“That was hair. This is make up. I can do make up, gorgeous. It is my element.”
“You can do make up. For someone else.” Ginny’s blue eyes lit up. “Here’s Annie. Practice on her.” She dragged her by the arm over to where Stanley had his brushes and vats of make up all set up.
“I…” Anne didn’t want her face done but Ginny’s face was like stone and Stanley’s bottom lip curled into a pout. All the signs of a bad start to the evening. “Oh, okay.” She sighed, settling into the chair. How could this end up any worse than the green hair?
“Oh, goodie.” Stanley clapped, the thundercloud replace by bright sun. “This is a real treat, Annie Bananie. You don’t let me touch your face very often.”
“You let HIM give you makeup tips and not me?” The drama wasn’t yet over.
Anne got up again. “Unless you’d rather?” She waved at the seat.
“No, no.” Ginny conceded. “You go right ahead.” She plunked down in a nearby chair. “Could I suggest moss green eye shadow to go with the hair?”
She was joking, right?
“Ohhh…” Stanley’s mouth rounded. “She could be a woodland fairy.”
Oh, lord, they weren’t.
