“Thanks for doing this, Patrick.” Nancy smiled warmly at the big man beside her, one of Stanley’s special friends.

He was her cover for the event. Large, handsome, well known around campus and still tucked deep in the closet. The perfect man to make Ted jealous.

“No problem,” a deep voiced grunt, “Helps me out to.”

She imagined it would. Must be tough being who he was and also on the college football team.

“So which one is he, this player of yours both away from the table and at?” Patrick surveyed the gym floor. Contestants milled around the green table tennis surfaces.

Nancy didn’t have to search long. She noticed Ted as soon as he came out of the locker room, looking all excited, and manly, waving at her, seated in the bleachers, and then frowning at Patrick.

Which was exactly the effect she wanted.

“He’s number 16.” The giant number pinned across his broad chest. Nancy watched Ted point her out to another player.

Ted really was clueless, like he said. Stupid boy. Of course, he didn’t realize that she saw him… with that girl, Nancy fumed. He didn’t know that she now saw him for the slime bucket he was. He had some gall two timing her.

“I have to go to the gym tonight… to practice.” Ted tried again.

“Hhhmmm…” He wanted her at his precious tournament. Wanted to show her off to his friends. Ewww… look at her, one of his many women.

Many women…

Would she be there?

Nancy scuffed her runners against the linoleum floor, making a squeaky sound. Ted deserved a toe in the shin for the games he was playing.

‘Cause if Nancy didn’t go, she would be there for certain. The blonde, boobsy mystery woman would have Nancy’s man all to herself.

Did she want that?

Nancy peeked up at Ted’s handsome face. Crap, no. She wasn’t ready to give him up yet.

Then… “What time should I be there on Saturday?”

“My first match is at 10.” Ted’s grin made Nancy want to slap him. Like he won this fight or something.

He hadn’t. “Fine,” muttered. Nancy hadn’t said she’d be going alone, had she?

If he had a fan club then dang it, she would too.
