Table Tennis Players
Start Reading Nancy’s Story Here.
“Thanks for doing this, Patrick.” Nancy smiled warmly at the big man beside her, one of Stanley’s special friends.
He was her cover for the event. Large, handsome, well known around campus and still tucked deep in the closet. The perfect man to make Ted jealous.
“No problem,” a deep voiced grunt, “Helps me out to.”
She imagined it would. Must be tough being who he was and also on the college football team.
“So which one is he, this player of yours both away from the table and at?” Patrick surveyed the gym floor. Contestants milled around the green table tennis surfaces.
Nancy didn’t have to search long. She noticed Ted as soon as he came out of the locker room, looking all excited, and manly, waving at her, seated in the bleachers, and then frowning at Patrick.
Which was exactly the effect she wanted.
“He’s number 16.” The giant number pinned across his broad chest. Nancy watched Ted point her out to another player.
“Talking to Bertie?” The man’s smile disappeared, furrows forming between his eyebrows.
“Bertie?” The small Asian man making Ted laugh? Nancy knew none of his teammates.
“Lucky number 7, that bastard.” Very emotional.
“Patrick…” What was the story there?
“I thought he liked me. He didn’t. Just used me to get close to the quarterback.”
“Ohhh.” Nancy covered his large clasped hands with hers. She felt his pain. And to think from another…
“Table tennis players…” they said in unified disgust.
